This is part 2 of the “Outback” series, you can start here.
Before all else, here’s a simplistic picture of the challenges facing the East Kimberley region of WA, broken down into 4 categories:
Lack of Education
Poor Housing / Overcrowding
Looking at this Quality of Life Index paper, we’ve in fact have just gone from an area with the best quality of life in Australia (Ku-ring-gai) to the worst (Halls Creek). Luckily, while these charts and data paint a rather bleak picture of the Kimberley region, our experiences over the past week have been quite the opposite. There’s been a real good vibe around town and people here couldn’t been warmer.
Over the next few weeks, the plan is to tackle our education project and pocket a few new experiences during our spare time (we’ve got camping trips, off-road driver training, local footy final and bunch of other goodies in sight so no shortage of things to do here). Til next time!
P.S. The first entry just cracked 100 views and while this not seem like much, you guys have definitely cracked the whip and provided the much needed motivation for me to get off my lazy ass and write. Thanks!
